1. 活动介绍 Event Description:

此次活动我们邀请了三位祖上曾经留学的“留三代”，他们分别是胡先骕孙女胡晓江、王赓孙女王冬妮和林戊荪孙子林邦。作为第一代留学生的后代，他们将共同做客海外高校校友会中心，分享他们对家族历史的追忆以及对中西教育交流的感触。

At this event, three guests, who themselves and whose grandfathers have studied in the US, will share their family history and educational experience with us. These “third-generation overseas students” are Hu Xiaojiang, granddaughter of Hu Hsen-Hsu ;Donni Wang, granddaughter of Ken Wang and Steve Lin , grandson of Peter Wusun Lin.

 

2. 人物介绍 Earlier Figures:

胡先骕（1894-1968）：1916年加州大学毕业，1925年在哈佛大学获得博士。在他身上完美融合了中国传统知识分子的文人风骨和追求真理的现代科学精神，他是中国植物学奠基人、中央研究院首届院士，国立中正大学首任校长、同时也是著名的教育家、文学批评家、翻译家和古体诗诗人。

Hu Hsen-Hsu（1894-1968）: He graduated form University of California in 1916 and earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1925. Hu embodied the spirit of both traditional Chinese intellectual values and the modern scientific method. He was the founder of Chinese botany, a key member of the Central Research Academy, the first president of Nanchang University, and a renowned educator, literary critic, translator, and poet of classical Chinese poetry.

王赓（1895-1942）：16岁考取第第三届庚子赔款的留美名额，就读于密歇根大学、哥伦比亚、普林斯顿和西点等四所美国名校（1911-1918），同时也是天才少年、梁启超弟子与艾森豪威尔的校友。在徐志摩和陆小曼的民国奇恋中，他是大度放手的君子；在抗日战争中，他是热血报国的青年中将。

Ken Wang（1895-1942）: At 16, he secured a spot in the third round of the Boxer Indemnity Scholarship Program and studied at the University of Michigan, Columbia University, Princeton University, and West Point (1911-1918). He was a prodigy, a disciple of Liang Qichao, and a schoolmate of Dwight D. Eisenhower. 

After the famous affair between Xu Zhimo and Lu Xiaoman,he was the noble gentleman who gracefully stepped aside. During the War of Resistance against Japan, he was a passionate and patriotic young general.

林戊荪（1928-2021）：1951年从达特茅斯大学毕业。他在抗日战争年代目睹国家遭受侵略，奋发图强，远赴美国留学。他提前回国投入到对外传播与翻译事业，并见证了中国对外传播事业从无到有、发展壮大的历程，一生为中国翻译事业做出了杰出贡献。他是中国外文局原局长、“翻译文化终身成就奖”获得者、“中译外”领军人物。

Peter Wusun Lin（1928-2021）: He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1951. Witnessing China’s War of Resistance against Japan, he was determined to empower himself by going to study in the United States. He returned to China to dedicate himself to cross-national communication and translation, improving China’s overseas image . He made outstanding contributions to China's translation projects throughout his life. He was the former Director of the China Foreign Languages Administration, a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Translation, and a leading figure in the field of  translating Chinese into foreign languages.

2024年8月31日（周六）下午16：00，胡晓江、王冬妮、与林邦这三位后代将携带各自祖父的故事与他们自己的留学经历来携手回顾家族辉煌记忆，探讨百年来中西文化交流的历程及其在教育领域的影响。我们诚邀您一起期待这场精彩纷呈的交流盛会，并一起参与这场跨越历史的对话！

On the afternoon of Saturday, August 31,at 4:00 PM, Hu Xiaojiang ,Donni Wang and Steve Lin will share their grandfathers' stories and their experiences of studying abroad. Together, they will reflect on the journeys of their families and explore the century-long cultural exchange between China and the West and its impact on education. We invite you to join us and participate in this wonderful dialogue whith a unique historical perspective!

备注：本次活动对海归校友免费，报名押金会在活动现场签到后返还。校友们也可选择用押金换取一本王赓传记（定价68元）。‌

P.S. The event is free for alumni and the registration deposit will be refunded after check-in. Alumni also have the option of exchanging their deposit for a copy of Ken Wang’s biography (price at ¥68).
